NEW FOR 2022 - A HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY IN EAST ANGLIA

This new talk covers the early saints and their stories, the coming of the Normans and the great flowering of abbeys and monasteries. It covers the upheavals of the Dissolution, the reign of Bloody Mary and the burning of the protestant martyrs. It finishes on a more gentle note with the story of Jesus told in a series of stunning stained glass windows.

 THE STATELY HALLS OF EAST ANGLIA

Each hall or mansion is a masterpiece of architecture in its own right, all of them overflowing with fabulous furnishings, treasures and objects d art. Every Hall has a tale to tell; there are love stories and ghost stories, nuggets of social, political and military history, and the stories of the remarkable women who ran their stately homes while their husbands were busy with their military or political careers.

          Each of the above talks is illustrated with over 100 beautiful transparencies and covers the heritage and history of the county. The focus is on abbeys, castles, guildhalls and stately homes, and follows the courses of all the major rivers. Our rivers were the early avenues of exploration, conquest and trade, and so most of our major towns and villages have grown along their banks. Following the rivers helps to build up a comprehensive picture of the county as a whole.

          I am pleased to offer my talk and slide shows to all interested clubs and societies requiring a speaker within a fifty mile radius of my home in Bury St Edmunds. Each talk lasts for approximately an hour and my fee is £45. + 30p per mile traveling expenses.
